As a twenty-something year old, I often recall my childhood. It mostly happens when I’m adulting. You know, bills, work, and more bills. My comfort is looking for anything that reminds me of home, whether I’m a million miles away or 500ft from my house. Wherever I am in the world, I have a little box of Mexican candy with me, filled with the joy and laughter, and probably scraps and cries, of my younger years. There’s just something about eating a Paleta Payaso, Mazapan or anything Lucas that automatically makes my heart feel better. Pelon Pelo Rico is a very delicious, soft jell tamarind candy, but what's special about this type of sweet and tangy treat is it's small strips of tamarind once the bottle is pressed down. Limon 7 is a salt and lemon powder that has an irresistible tang of citrus and a dash of salt, perfect for a multipurpose: eaten straight out of the packet, sprinkled onto a variety of fruits and snacks, and even beverages. But more so straight out of the packet! It has the perfect combination of two contradictory flavors: sweet and sour. It made you pucker and make the most embarrassing facial expression there could ever exist, but even if it was burning a hole into your stomach oozing down your throat, if you finished it all it was as if you gained a gold medal among your primos and amigos.
Vero Pica Fresa are strawberry flavored gummies coated with chili. These addicting little balls of bliss deliver the right amount of zing to your every tastebud! The only problem? You couldn’t JUST have one.

Mazapan is a peanut based candy made of crushed peanuts. A typical Mexican candy for all occasions! It easily melts in your mouth, providing your tastebuds an irresistible rich flavor, you'll never be able to eat just one! It crumbles at the slightest touch and opening one of these babies requires expert handling. It was more so of a game among your primos whether who would be able to unwrap it without any imperfection. I must admit, I lost a couple times in my childhood.
Fun fact: Mazapan is made of Marizpan, a confection consisting primarily of honey and almond meal. It is often made into sweets. Marzipan made its way to Europe from China, its country of origin. It was then brought to Mexico from Spain where it is known by its Spanish name Mazapan.
